Welcome to the website of the Embassy of Viet Nam in the United States of America.

The history of Vietnam-US relationship has turned a page. Over the last decade, we have witnessed significant milestones in the bilateral relations, most remarkable of which, to name a few, are the historic first visits by our leaders to Hanoi and Washington DC., the establishment of Permanent Normal Trade Relations and the full normalization of bilateral ties. Our relationship has expanded and deepened in various areas, including significant and growing trade and economic ties, an emerging military-to-military relationship, successful co-operation on health and development issues, increasing educational links, a commitment to resolving remaining issues stemming from the war, a shared interest in ensuring peace, stability, and prosperity in the Asia-Pacific region, and frank and candid discussion of differences. The growing people-to-people contacts and cultural interactions have been instrumental in deepening mutual understanding and bringing our two nations closer.

Vietnam, an old country of a four-thousand-year history but a young population with more than half of its 84 million people under 30 years old, prides itself as one of the most dynamic economies in the world. Two decades of economic reforms have transformed Vietnam into a lively market. The country now has diplomatic and trade relations with more than 170 countries and territories. Vietnam is now known as a favorite tourism destination for American people, with beautiful beaches, exotic food and hospitable and friendly people.

As the new Ambassador to your beautiful country, I feel an urge of moving our relations on the momentum we have enjoyed over the past years and building Vietnam - US relationship into a strong, durable and broad-based partnership.
