(VNA) Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Nguyen Phuong Nga on June 16 rejected the US Department of State’s comments on human trafficking situation in the country, saying they are politically purposeful.

Nga made the protest while answering reporters’ questions about Vietnam ’s reactions to the comments on human trafficking in the country stated in the 2010 Trafficking in Persons Report that was released by the US Department of State on June 14.

“It is regrettable the US Department of State’s 2010 Trafficking in Persons Report makes politically intentional and partial comments on Vietnam that do not reflect rightly the real situation in Vietnam although the department had been provided with sufficient information,” Nga said.

The spokeswoman stressed that Vietnam considers trafficking in humans, especially in women and children, dangerous crime that seriously infringes upon human rights and badly affects social development.

Hence, Nga said, Vietnam has paid due attention to the fight against human trafficking and already adopted a number of policies and measures to push back and wide out the crime.

Since 2004, the Vietnamese Government has implemented an action plan on preventing and combating the trafficking of women and children with a view to improving public awareness and action, and reducing this crime basically by 2010.

Vietnam is actively cooperating with international organisations and joining regional and international forums to share experiences and information, and increase coordination in the fight against human trafficking, she said.

The spokeswoman stressed Vietnam ’s efforts in preventing and combating human trafficking had positive effects on the entire society and been acknowledged by the international community./.
